Moisturizing and skin still feels dry?

Moisturizing, And Skin Still Feels Dry?

Feels like a helpless sensation… Moisturizing every day and the skin is still dry. It looks like the skin has no life, sad, and the worst part, we feel completely frustrated. The good news is that the solution is as simple as we could imagine.

It’s going back to the basics.

Sometimes you could be forgetting or neglecting one of the steps on your skincare routine. Other times because we don’t know what skin type we have.

Or just because the skin conditions could change over time and we don’t know that this happens.

What are the Main Factors to Check When It Feels Like Your Skin Type is Changing?

  • Genetics is the #1 factor – We Inherit our skin type from our parents.
  • Hormones – Pregnancy, Period, Teenage years are big influencers in hormone peaks.
  • Medications – There are quite some components in medicines that affect the pH balance of our skin
  • Diet – What we eat on a daily basis reflect in our skin condition
  • Climate – Changing season is something to consider as well. We can have a skin type in the summer and another in the winter

That means I Should Test my Skin Type Often?

Yes, it is a good thing to do, especially when we see variances on the skin conditions, even if following all the skincare steps. More details about what is behind the skin test, click here.

Here’s a quick test you can do:

  1. Wash the face with a gentle, natural cleanser, removing all makeup, dust, and pollution from the day
  2. Pat dry leaving the skin damp and that’s it. Nothing else for the next hour or so, let it dry naturally and do not use any other product
  3. During this step of waiting, resist not touching your skin.
  4. Your skin in one hour can reveal what the natural, real condition is

As the Focus here today, in this post, is Dry Skin let’s go deep on this skin condition what is happening after the test.

You realized that after the test, in one hour, the skin feels tight or itchy.

Your hands and especially your nails look like flaky and with white skin on the cuticles.

Considering the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin is essential. Because of the lack of water, that could be a momentaneous condition.

Drinking enough water could solve the issue quite immediately. Eight to Twelve (8-12) glasses of water is the reference amount.

Ok, What’s Next? What to check if My Skin is Still Dry After Moisturizing?

Cleansing Skin Step – Check

Picture the scene: spending hundreds of dollars in a moisturizer, and still not delivering the results you are expecting. How frustrated this is. Let me ask this. Are you using a cleanser that is appropriate for your Dry Skin?

It may be the only cleanser you have at home, but if you have dry skin, the best ones to use are with natural ingredients, that softly removes the residues from the skin without removing the all the sebum, which is essential protection for the skin.

Exfoliation Skin Step – Check

Here’s another necessary step that could be missing in the skincare routine. Or maybe the fear of over-cleansing, as it is also a factor for dryness condition of the skin.

The actual reality is that once a week, even if we have dry skin, we should exfoliate.

Removing the dead cells from the face is essential.

If not removed, dead cells keep in the surface creating a layer that doesn’t allow moisturizers to work on the skin. So to guarantee that this step is checked on your skincare routine, exfoliate at least once a week.

Important Note: In dry skin, pay attention if not over-cleansing your skin; usually an excellent natural, gentle cleanser and exfoliation can keep your skin in good shape.

Treat Your Dry Skin After Cleansing and Before Moisturizing – Check

All skin deserves a treat in the skincare routine. It’s an organ and needs to be nourished, protected as it protects our internal body.

Serums are one of the best skin care products in the modern world that we can take advantage of. It’s one of the steps when dealing with dry skin conditions, vital for a youthful, glowing look.

Plant Stem Cells Serums are the best options and the ones which include Vitamin-C as a powerful antioxidant and Marine Extracts as a gene modulator for anti-aging.

Pause for Hydration – Check

If we do not stress this enough, people may pass through this without noticing it. And this is the easiest step to do. Just grab a bottle of water fill it and walk around. In the car, in the office, at your desk. Make it handy.

One of the best tips I could share on this is to every time you stand up to go to the restroom, fill in the bottle and you have water handy, during all the day.

Feeling like wanting some excitement in the water? Try to squeeze lemon on your bottle of water, before you leave home. Another healthy and tasty idea is a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in the bottle — hydrating and alkalizing, which is good for the body and skin.

Moisturizing Skin Step – Check

The perfect timing to moisturize is when the skin is damp, hydrated by water and serum (from the previous step).

Skin is more receptive; pores are open to absorb all the benefits and nutrients from the moisturizer.

We all should be mindful and take advantage of that. The best time to do that is after the shower. If we try to do that later, based on experience, we forget. Make it like part of the shower ritual.

Applying The Moisturizer Correctly

I asked a dermatologist once in a conversation what do people do wrong when moisturizing, that surprised her, and she said that people do not apply to moisturize correctly.

Either because they are using smaller amounts for the area that is being applied, or rubbing the moisturizer aggressively.

So based on a dermatologist recommendation, the right way to apply the moisturizer is to do it tapping the product the same way you would do as in delicate parts of the body, such as eye contour.

The Right Moisturizer for the Right Skin Type

Read the labels, read the instructions, dry skin requires different formulation, pH, and texture, otherwise, instead of nourishing, you might be damaging your skin.

For dry skin there are some essentials to know:

  • Light moisturizers for day and heavier creams at night
  • Hyaluronic Acid helps the skin to be hydrated, but not moisturized
  • Natural Ingredients are always the best option for dry skin, such as aloe vera, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil…
  • Avoid unnecessary substances like artificial colors, perfumes, they could sound attractive, but in reality, they are very irritating to dry skin.
  • Other actives to bear in mind are Alcohols, AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids), Glycolic Acid, Retinoids, and Salicylic Acid. They may go to the deeper layers of the skin, causing damage.

Sleep Tight With Extra Moisture in The Face

At night time, our body, in general, starts a fascinating process. Full recovery, full regeneration and balancing hormones. That is the perfect time to put our body in a state of total relax and absorbedness.

Prepare the skin for nighttime with proper cleansing, treating and moisturizing steps, as we describe above. Then apply an overnight mask, which is loaded with antioxidants, vitamin-E, and other natural ingredients that will surge the face, enough to make us wake up next morning refreshed from inside out!
