Thick Eyebrows With Microblading. What’s the Impact on My Skin and Face?

According to research from Ohio State University, we can perform twenty-one (21) facial expressions, different from the theory that defended that we had only six (6) – surprised, disgusted, angry, happy, sad and fearful. But this is subject for another post in another chapter. Let’s come back to the primary purpose, understanding Microblading.

Is Microblading the Same As Eyebrow Tattoo?

Yes, it is. Sharp. Probably the second and most important question to ask is:

Is Microblading Permanent? No, It is semi-permanent. Because the pigment goes under a shallow layer of the skin, that fades out over time, depending on the procedure could fade in either six (6) months to three (3) years.

The difference though is that tattooing is a similar procedure, which the ink applied on the skin reaches a deep layer (dermis), turning it into a permanent thing.

While the Tattoo procedure, use a device, called tattoo gun, composed with a small blade which injects pigment under the skin, the microblading, requires a method that uses very tiny needles, and as mentioned above, in the outermost layer of the skin.

In case you are wondering if microblading hurts, the answer is it is not a comfortable feeling. Painful is a reference. Some people are more tolerant of pain. How tolerant are you with a headache without taking any medicine? Are you the one that takes it imediatelly when it starts, or just in the worst-case scenario? The answer to this question will define how tolerant you are to a microblading procedure.

Is Microblading for Everybody?

No, it’s not for everybody. If you have Rosacea, Eczema or a prone to keloids, you should not apply for that. On the other hand, if you either suffer from alopecia – kind of hair loss – or your eyebrows are very sparse and/or thin, that could be a tremendous relief and the pain we described above, would be nothing for you.

One important disclaimer here is that you should consult your doctor or dermatologist before moving forward doing microblading. There might be some kind of health condition that is better to address first.

How Many Microblading Sessions Do I Have to Go To Have My Eyebrows Done?

Depending on where you have decided to do the microblading, it can take two to three (2-3) sessions to complete. The first session usually takes two hours and a half to three hours, as the setup of the device, define the best color to use and design to be performed on the skin has to be aligned.

It requires a month for the skin to heal completely; the pigment sits on skin properly to be ready for the follow-up session then fine-tuning the dye. The color fades about 40% after that period. That’s the reason for the second, or maybe a third session.

How Much Does Microblading cost?

The complete procedure for Microblading will be in a $400 to $800 range. And it depends primarily on three (3) factors:

– Stylist or Artist – This is essential for you to pay attention. Make an appointment to talk with the artist person, feel, check reviews, check previous works, how long in business and mostly if it is a licensed professional.

– Place – The place where the stylist works, if it is a professional clinic, able to attend emergencies, in case of something goes wrong, although it is a straightforward procedure.

– Tools – During the consultation, to know about the professional and clinic, ask about the tools used. Technology, ask them to explain what are the different techniques available.

Is it worth? Well if you are looking for the bright side concerning having peace of mind to not worry about using makeup every day to define eyebrows before leaving home, even to the local grocery store, around the corner. That is definitely something to consider.

Waterproof results – You will be able to work out and sweat, go to the beach, pool and the eyebrows are “still there”… if you know what I mean.

For those not so privileged in having thick and well-designed eyebrows and suffering looking at the mirror seeing spare/thin ones, probably you will be thinking for the next couple of days, at least.

What Kind of Precaution Do I Have to Take Before Having a Microblading Procedure?

First and foremost, consult a doctor or dermatologist. Then they may suggest someone, usually, dermatologists have a clinic, or a licensed professional to take care of you.

Be aware that even though allergic reactions to pigments are rare, they are not guaranteed. It’s part of the consultation if you have allergies to hair dyes or any specific makeup products, any metals such as nickel, gold or silver. Be prepared to answer to those questions when asked.

It is imperative that the clinic use sterilized equipment, disposable needles, and sanitized rooms.

If the clinic suggests a patch test on your skin, it is a good sign that the place takes the job seriously.

Either you are an obsessed eyebrow person or a makeup expert that knows what it takes to have beautiful, perfectly designed eyebrows, or utterly careless about the subject, the truth of the matter is that if it is available in the market and it is a trend, it is something you may think once in a lifetime to have it. It is semi-permanent anyways. So if you don’t try it, you will never know.
