Optimizing The Skin Care Routine

Optimizing Skincare Routine In Hectic Lifestyle

Optimizing skincare routine in a hectic lifestyle is a challenge in today’s world. It seems like we don’t have time to breathe, that we would be able to do it.

But once we are mindful what’s the actual skincare look like, we can be critical and question ourselves if the skincare routine is the best for our lifestyle.

Learning the basics about the ingredients and how they perform and react on our skin is the first step.

Second, it’s the motivation level to get the desired results. When motivated, aware of the desired results, we can measure naturally, the evolution and improvement.

Let’s consider a practical situation. Many times we are feeling too sleepy at nighttime, after a long stressful day at work and the only thing we want is to relax and go to bed.

Not feeling to cleanse and apply the night creams, retinol or glycolic. When motivated to the desired results, we will find the last 15 minutes of energy, to do it earlier.

If we think about, could be as soon as we get home, or just before dinner, after the shower, while we are still up.

Think about it. When we sit on the couch to veg-out… it looks like that every minute we spend there, more influence of the G-Force is there and more heavier we get.

Is it Ok to Skip One Day Of The Night Skincare Routine?

Yes, if it is one day here another there, yes. It’s not the best thing to do for sure. Let’s be honest and not sugarcoat, but given how hectic our lives can be and how exhausted we are by the end of the day…

But the morning skincare routine is another story. We should do, no matter what, and no matter the desires, dreams or no dreams…

We should be waking up, then 30 minutes earlier, if necessary. Or going to bed 30 minutes more before getting an extra 30 minutes of sleep.

As we said here in previous posts, sleeping is very important for the hormones, related to beauty, to work as our allies.

Then we have plenty of time to run an excellent skincare routine. As we deserve. I know that many times it is not easy.

Remember we are creatures of habit, so we have the power to create good healthy habits.

If by any chance, it’s still challenging to wake up and go through the morning skincare routine, we suggest following a good tip from one of the most respectful board-certified dermatologists in America.

Before going to bed, line up the products necessary for the next morning skincare routine.

That way, they are waiting for us, as soon as we roll out of bed, and like an instinct, we go as a no brainer situation and perform it.

A well optimized morning skincare routine should not take more than 4 minutes. And in no rush!

And by the minute we are fully awake, the morning skincare routine is done!

Another tip that is good to consider to keep on track in the morning: Keep all the necessary products on a wicker tray next to the bathroom sink or a side counter.

Most skincare products are not that temperature sensitive and will remain active as long as they are kept away from a hot radiator or a cold window.

Some of us waste time just trying to find our products and then when we’re done with them, returning them to a less-than-practical location.

Also, if you happen to misplace a product, you might completely forget to use it. Out of sight, out of mind!

Having said that, if happen to miss the morning skincare routine, and we know that it happens, it’s not the end of the world. Try to get back as soon as possible.

And remember that every day is a new day to start all over again!

Otherwise, we won’t know for sure, whether or not what we are doing is working.

And many times blaming the skincare products… years of dedication and study to put the actives and ingredients together in the name of beauty.

Trying not to mention, but mentioning…the expense of time and money… Think about it.

Adjustments In Our Skincare Routine To Make It Work

Many other situations will arise that may require us to make adjustments, on a skincare routine. That’s part of life.

Climate changes, for example, make dramatic changes in our skin. What works during the summer, might not in the winter.

Living in harsh climate regions and the outdoors are challenging for the skin.

Climate changes happen more abruptly. Of course, when we travel. When going to a warmer-weather climate, expect our skin to be less dry.

But also warmer temperatures may aggravate a tendency to breakout.

In acne-prone skin, a salicylic acid would be useful in a trip, for instance.

On the other hand, when going on a ski trip, the best skincare strategy would be investing in a thicker moisturizer sunscreen, sports formulation, ideally.

The same applies to for travel to higher altitudes, where the combination of sun and dry air can take a significant toll on our skin. Especially in a redness prone skin or flaking one.

Then there’s the stress of schedule, jet lag, sleeping schedule changes, even food that we so often end up eating when in a rush.

And for those who breakout more often, when traveling, a salicylic acid cleanser is an excellent partner to go with, to control acne. Sometimes, a hydrating calming mask with chamomile is another good partnership to consider.

How To Optimize Your Skincare Routine When Working Out In the Morning

Beyond travel, the exercise program is or should be, an excellent healthy habit to develop, if not yet.

Starting with a walking, jogging, or any other workout, it’s not necessary to cleanse the face first.

Simply dab face with tepid water and apply a good waterproof sunscreen. One that won’t run or sting the eyes.

Then the morning skincare routine can go after the shower, after the workout.

For the swimmers out there, a waterproof zinc-based sunscreen before jumping the pool. Zinc has the added benefit of coming and protecting the skin from the effects of chlorine.

It’s incredible how people can have irritated skin by chlorine, and easily overdone. Sometimes, when the time is possible, a soothing mask after a day of swimming is a good idea to put into practice.

When It’s Time To Call It Quits For A New Skincare Routine

It sometimes happens that we are on week three or week 5 of a new skincare routine and notice that a particular product it’s not feeling good on the skin.

The best thing to do is to is to listen to the body! Dryness, redness or irritation could be a sign for discontinuing the product for several days.

It’s not a bad idea to give a second chance once the symptoms subside, but this time, use it less frequently.

There are products that only two, three times a week it’s more than enough to deliver the expected results.

Likewise, if a product stings on the application, the right thing to do is to cut back on how often the use happens.

Usually, in these cases, the label should say the suggested use, either once or twice a week..

Bear in mind the distinction, between tingling and stinging. If a product makes the skin tingle, probably is doing some good.

If it genuinely sings or burns, then it may be too strong for you.

Sticking with a product that is causing a reaction on the skin, just because you invested a lot of money, it shouldn’t hold you up.

Hope the brand can offer a refund and you’re good to go.
