Taking a Flight? Arrive at Destination looking better than departure!

5 Secrets Flight Attendants Have To Keep Skin Hydrated Even Under Tough Conditions

We owe a lot of respect to flight attendants all over the world! They work very hard to keep themselves well put together, even under tough conditions. And what happens is that they can arrive at the destination looking better than departure!

They wake up in Europe, same day sleeping in America and the day after back to Europe. Many times it doesn’t look like they are working that much, but the reality is that behind that sweet, friendly smile, there is a lot of skin expertise.

We talked to one of our dear customers, who is a private jet flight attendant, and she shared with us 5 secrets flight attendants have to keep the skin hydrated even under tough conditions.

Rucca (her nickname) has more than 20 years of flying over the world.
Speaking 5 languages, Rucca has not only lovely skin but beautiful hair that calls attention to every single lady in the room.

Let’s put a little bit of context here.
When we say harsh conditions, the jet cabin under pressurization, as private jets fly over 43,500 ft high, gets as dry as the Saara desert.

Dry air damages the skin 3 times more than in normal conditions.

When traveling on high altitudes, the flight cabin needs to be pressurized, lowering the oxygen flow in the cells, which alters the viscosity of blood and other fluids in our body.

That creates a stressful environment for the skin, especially for the eye contour. A very sensitive area, where the skin structure is thinner compared to the other parts of the face.

With that said, here comes the secret number one:

#1 Water, water, and more water during the flight to save your skin from getting over dry

Probably you are hearing this for the hundredth time, but we can’t stress enough how important water is for the body.

More than 60% of our body is made of water.
So to keep the organs working properly, and that includes the skin, the largest of them all, water is vital to keep the skin hydrated and also to make the trip more comfortable.

Besides the fact that water will support the fluids clean up the cells, it will naturally force you to stand up, move the legs, to go to the restroom.
So these are some of the numerous benefits of drinking water.

It doesn’t hurt to ask if they have tomato juice or grape juice. Both have excellent antioxidant properties, and your skin will be grateful for that treat!

By now, you should be asking about drinks! It sounds perfect going for a glass of wine before departure.

Oh yes, not only sounds great but it also can make you relax. But careful though, alcohol is responsible for drying out the skin 2 times as much.

That means that for every glass of wine, for example, we should be drinking 2 glasses of water.

Secret # 2 for hydrated skin under tough conditions

“Preparation for the body starts the day before the trip,” says Rucca.

Rest, go to bed early, start packing two days before, so you don’t have to be stressed out the night before you’re flying.

When we sleep, the regeneration process gets triggered, releasing essential hormones to the body contributing to the whole operation of the immune system, as well as beneficial to build glowing skin.

We also should be eating clean before we get into the plane.

Green salads, natural juices, and good sources of grilled protein.

Avoiding tricky vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and beans. The same tip goes for carbs, as well.

They can cause abdominal discomfort during the trip.

Secret # 3 for hydrated skin on long flights is to keep it simple.

Simplicity is essential to optimize time and space, Rucca shares.

We can’t take our whole set of creams, so the key is to have the right and the best options available.

Being mindful that for security reasons, in our carry on bags, it’s not allowed to travel with liquids over 3.4 fluid ounces, the equivalent of 100 ml.

That means that the toiletry bag with the beauty essentials should be ready to fly with:

  • Lip balm
  • Cleanser
  • Serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen

If you forget one of the items above, your skin is paying the toll. So making it simple, it makes it easy to remember.

  • The lip balm is as essential as the products for the skin. The lips are very sensitive, and you know by now that even for 10 minutes in an arid environment as it is on a cold winter day, that your lips will be damaged.
  • The cleanser will help you out to deep cleanse the pores and prepare the skin for better absorption of the upcoming nourishing ingredients. Better use a gentle cleanser with natural ingredients that cleanse without drying out the skin.
  • The serum is when we are giving the biggest treat to the skin. When the nourishment ingredients, antioxidants, and actives do their job on the skin. Essential for a good skincare routine.
  • Moisturizer will trap the super-hydration delivered by the serum to last longer. The molecules are larger, so part of the actives are absorbed, while another part works as a shield from the outside dry air.
  • Last but not least, sunscreen, especially if you’re in a daylight flight and next to the window.

#4 The sequence of products on a skincare routine is vital for them to work correctly.

The right sequence on the skincare routine was carefully elaborated to deliver the best out of each one.

It’s like baking teaching math to a kid. You don’t start teaching addition, before teaching them numbers.
